# How we make money

Local Expert is free for homeowners. Professionals and businesses pay for some services. None of it changes who is featured or the order.

Last reviewed October 29, 2026

## Where the money comes from

1.

### Enhanced profiles

More photos, project details and reports. Labelled on the profile.

2.

### Quote request fees

Some businesses pay when a homeowner chooses to send them a request.

3.

### Sponsored placements

Always labelled "Sponsored" and kept apart from the featured experts.

## What money can't buy

- Being featured, or a higher position.
- Hiding a competitor or bad reviews.
- Changes to our local facts or guides.

## Questions about the money

### Can an expert pay to be featured on a page?

No. Experts are featured because of their business record, not a payment. An enhanced profile adds photos and project stories; it never changes who appears or where.

### Why is it free to ask an expert a question?

Some businesses pay us when a homeowner chooses to send them a request. You never pay, and your question only goes to the people you tick.

### How can I tell a paid placement from a featured expert?

Paid placements carry a "Sponsored" label and sit apart from the featured experts. If it isn't labelled, nobody paid for it.
